FST4 goes very nicely through my Class D 137kHz PA
and 400W class E for 475kHz

As does WSPR, and JT9
We don't use FT8 ion those bands

Whole decode line coloring is coming from within WSJT-X. Partial coloring, eg callsigns & grids, indicates that JTAlert is the source.

HamSpots shows you being spotted on 20m FT4. But no spots from you, indicating that you're not sending spots to PSKReporter.

I'm not sure the search is giving me all the answers and threads.

A few months back I decided to update WSJT-X after a year on an earlier version... and whatever version that was I upgraded to (i honestly don't remember now) had this issue (it was always less than a day, but random), so I went to the release candidate ... and the problem went away... also in that week I looked at messages and saw things about USB power so I verified no power saving mode on any USB device (the computer already was set that way given its function)...    ultimately the RC makes you upgrade again (why??? I mean I know...) but anyohw.. 2.4.0 installed and was fine for awhile... but noticed over the last several weeks that its creeping back in, and in the last few days its getting nearly daily again.

I've verified every USB related thing I can find is not able to be shut down for power saving, and  I only have 2 usb cables connected  (one for radio-audio/controll IC7300,   one for MORTTY hardware keying of RTTY), so no hubs or anything else in my connection chain. (I run my win10 box headless... with remote connection in so dont even have monitor or keyboard).

The issue is like its a driver hang or something..... the waterfall stops... the receive level is what ever the last sample was, etc.  The program doesnt seem locked up otherwise..   no power issues with computer or radio (both are fully UPS with long rrun times).

It is very random... somedays minutes... somedays hours and hours.   I just like it sitting there listening to give me heads up if South Dakota or AK eventually make it through on 10M...

saw in one thread someone transmitted and it came back, so I will try that, but still doesnt really solve what ever the root issue is. I worry its windows 10 related... and the forced restarts every week due to updates.

Hello Joe,
I have it transmitting to the antenna  now but have not received any response as of yet, I am not sure what I did but I was sent to a web site that helped me get the 991A set correctly and that seemed to do the trick. There are a lot of directions on DIY but this one was right now I have to see if I am getting past the antenna.

The relative strengths of the two mixes shows up when you plot their data on the same graph. It leads to the same false interpretation of antenna vertical plots that results from normalizing them so that their peak field strength is set to 0 dB.
See http://k9yc.com/AntennaPlanning.pdf

There are tutorials and applications notes on my website about the use of ferrite common mode chokes at HF. A digested version of this material was added to the ARRL Handbook about ten years ago. I'm currently working on updating it for the next edition to reflect recent (last four years) work.

Ok, still new user here with a general question that I was asked and wasnt sure of the answer. The question was "if there is intent for the hardware to remain powered up 24x7 (or even remote operation) like for collecting WHISPER mode data on your station, how do you ensure there is some form  positive control of being able to power down if there is a failure resulting in the txcrv to continually txmit."

As I new user on an IC-7300, watching youtubes on WSPR mode using WSJT-X, I watched operators collecting WSPR mode data while physically being off at work during the day and not physically present at the home station. I have now done this myself once or twice, being away either at work or overnight while sleeping. I had watched WSJT-X in WHISPER mode while present for several hours beforehand, and had the transceiver set at very low power, never more than 5 Watts, and I was always conscious of weather conditions so that I wouldnt be leaving things on or antennas connected when lightning was possible. But I felt pretty comfortable not being physically on the "HALT" button. There are some other autonomous functions, like JS8Call networks that I now want to explore, and I am wondering how these autonomous modes are handled by other users so that risk of getting stuck in txmit is mitigated.

Appreciate any feedback.

Hi jay,

Do have JTAlert running? If you deselected other colors just now, did you exit Colors window by OK button?

Output from the rig is a balance between the PWR slider in WSJT-x

The windows speaker volume

And the digital gain (DT gain) on the FT-991a

I normally set the DT Gain by getting the volume and PWR settings where I want then, then watch the rig output power when it transmits,

If it is below the power set on the rig I slowly increase the DT until it matches, then back it off a fraction,

If it matches the power of the rig then I back t off a fraction until it just start to drease

I find the ALC level is about in the image below

That’s how I do it,  right or wrong it works for me

You need to go into the windows settings and select the RADIO's internal sound card as your speaker for receive and your  microphone for transmit.  SPEAKER and MICROPHONE have nothing whatsoever to do with the physical speaker or microphone on the radio or computer.  If you want, you can think of both as virtual as provided by the sound card inside the radio.  I do not have my 991A connected and I am not on the computer I use with it, but you should see the same USB Audio CODEC   you would if using a Signalink instead of the sound card in the radio.  DO NOT use the windows 10 Realtek speakers or the manufacturers audio

In my application, I am working 2M meteor scatter.   I find that power and antenna gain are both needed.    I just happen to have a solid-state Class C commercial amplifier capable of about 500 watts output.

There are two very good meteor showers in August.

The Pi is connected to the 991A by a USB cable only.
I would try to avoid using the USB 3.0 connections for this.  I've noticed that they are a bit finicky.
Also you might want to ensure that you reboot the Pi after you've made the USB connections.  It's supposed to pick up the new connection, but I've seen issues with that as well.
