Hi to All,
I just made my first JT65 QSO ..... And found out that there is no AutoSeq CheckBox ..... I find this chechBox very useful, is there a reason, why this is not in JT65 ??? Tu, 73, Karl OE3JAG

The Microsoft Surface X uses an ARM processor. The link below may be of help in understanding app and drivers compatibility:

hi,
FYI applications run differently on ARM-based Windows 10 PCs such as Surface Pro X. Limitations include the following: Drivers for hardware, games and apps will only work if they're designed for a Windows 10 ARM-based PC

Edward,
perhaps you are trying to install the
64-bit version of WSJT-X on a PC that has a 32-bit version of
Windows installed, that won't work and you would need the 32-bit
version of WSJT-X.

Possible issue with Windows 10 tablet
#WindowsTablet
Edward Goto
Sirs: WSJT-X 2.4.0 will not run on my Microsoft Surface Pro X tablet. I have seen YouTube videos where operators have seemingly run full rig-control suites on similar tablets, apparently using Windows 10. I am using Windows 10 Home, and have only belatedly realized Windows 10 was released in two versions; Home, and Pro. My 14-year-old son, who should apparently know, says my tablet uses a different microprocessor chip than what's used in desktop computers. I am wondering if Windows 10 Home has been reduced in functionality to the point where I've lost WSJT-X capability. I previously ran WSJT-X on an HP laptop using Windows 10, but am not sure which edition that was. That system was lost in a house fire, so I'm rebuilding. I have also read the WSJT-X manual for computer compatibility, but the section doesn't go into nuances of CPU chips or operating systems. Looking for a fix, preferably to upgrading the OS from Home to Pro, recognizing that Windows 11 has been announced, and who knows what that will do for me. If my hardware is simply incapable of dealing with WSJT-X, so be it, but I need to know for certain before I start ladling out more money for a new computer. Thanks in advance, Edward Goto, KD9OZD

Ken,
you are not following the instructions
in the Quick Start Guide, in the Installation section it states
that you must set the "Start in" directory to the one when the
map65.exe program is.

For the 77-bit payload modes like FT8, FT4, MSK144, FST4, and Q65 the situation is different. If you use a non-standard callsign you cannot send grid square with your CQ or Tx1 messages, this restriction is related to the far more flexible encodings of non-standard calls which take up more payload bits. Since your license does not require you to sign /8 I suggest you use your regular callsign and the grid you are operating from, if you really must sign /8 then all I can suggest is sending your grid occasionally after QSOs using a message like "DE WB4KTK EN74". 73 Bill G4WJS.

When Callsign/8 portable is used the Grid Locator is not sent in a CQ
I am operating /8 and when calling CQ with the designator "/8" my Grid Locator is never sent in a CQ. I had added the "/8" to my callsign on the General tab.
Section 7.5 of the online manual shows an example of a "CQ CALL/8 EN74" being sent but I cannot get my system to transmit that. I've tried Type 1, 2, and 3 on the GENERAL tab, yet none will cause my grid to be sent. What setting do I need to use to get this to work? -- Glen, WB4KTF Austin, TX Grawn MI: /8

Mike: Setting the audio level to give a 30dB reading on band noise is fine if you can be absolutely certain that, with AGC off, the audio output level from the Rx will follow the RF input level in a linear manner over approaching a 60db range, ie. to somewhere near the 90dB mark on the WSJT-X 'thermometer'. However, this demonstrably does *not* happen with some rigs, eg. my previous IC-7600 and my present IC-7610. With these, the audio output starts to become distorted when the RF input level reaches around -85dBm which is only about 40dB above the receiver's noise floor and possibly only 20-30dB above the level of band noise even on 6m. As already mentioned, the tests performed by Rob Sherwood NC0B on his IC-7300 demonstrated that it does not exhibit the same characteristics as his IC-7610 on its audio output until a very high RF input level is reached; there must be some differences in the (analogue and/or DSP) designs of the 7300 and 7610 that give rise to the different behaviours. I have no knowledge of how other makes of rig perform in this respect - it's not a parameter that I can recall ever seeing mentioned in test reviews - but I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them also can't handle a 60dB range of input signal without going into distortion on the audio output when AGC is off. I suspect the presence of significant distortion products on the audio signal going into the WSJT-X decoders will have a rather deleterious effect on the decoders' performance... I know it's possible ride a rig's input attenuator and/or the RF gain control to ensure that the audio output never becomes distorted but how many operators have the desire, understanding, and skills, to do that all the time, when the received signal strengths might be widely varying over short periods of time? I would assert that unless someone is *absolutely confident* that their receiver doesn't begin to exhibit distortion on its audio output at high signal levels then they'll obtain better overall decoding performance if they operate with AGC on and set the audio levels so that band noise gives a reading around the 60-65dB mark. The only scenario in which I operate my 7610 with AGC off and a WSJT-X reading of 30dB on band noise is when I'm using MSK144 - I can be fairly confident that the received signal levels are unlikely to cause distortion on the 7610's audio output... :-) -- Martin G0HDB

hi all,
I want to report a bug .. I think its a bug ....
So what happens ...
I switch through the bands and modes ... from FT8 to FT4 and back. Most the times I'm using FT8, but on 20m also FT4. Sometimes it happens that the screen remains empty on RX and Band Activity after the switch and after ERASE. The count goes up to 15 sec (7.5) and then it should be decoded but nothing happens. But what I see is that DECODE is always ON (blue) and remains ON. I can switch it off/on but nothing happens. After restart of WSJTx all is ok. This happened also on older versions but maybe you know it and its not solved yet or its a new bug. I really have no idea when it happens. Most the times its ok but sometimes not .. not often but sometimes.
WSJTx-Version id v2.4.0 c19d62 OP-System is WIN10pro .. actual level
I have really no idea when it happens. The only thing I do is switching the bands and sometimes the mode.
Maybe that helps. If I can do something to help you, please let me know
73, have a nice weekend and keep healthy

Hi Ken,
that error is probably because you are
not running MAP65 from the right working directory. You mentioned
you had modified your shortcuts before, please check you have done
that correctly as per the Installation section in the Quick Start

Like I said, my uses of FT8 are weak signal work on 160 and 6M. When you're trying to work EU from NorCal on 160, you're running legal limit, and so are the other guys out here trying to do the same thing. And it DOES require careful gain-riding of the A/D unit driving the computer. Some ops choose to deal with this sort of issue by narrowing the IF, but as soon as Joe answered my question about doing that by talking about the phase shift produced by the filters degrading decoding, I immediately understood. In the world of pro sound reinforcement, we learned 40 years ago that phase shift also degrades the ability of the human ear/brain to understand speech. 73, Jim K9YC
