locked Behavior of Hold Tx Freq #general

Just upgraded to 2.4.0. Using w/N1MM at the moment.

When I click on a CQ with Hold Tx Freq unchecked, the transmit frequency stays wherever it was last set. This was not the previous behavior.  Is there a way to fix the issue so that the Tx Freq follows receive?

N1MM Plus and WriteLog interoperate with WSJT-X. N1MM is by far the most popular and is free. I started out with WriteLog, switched to N1MM in 2008 and have not looked back. I don't know of any other CONTEST loggers that interoperate with WSJT-X. Expect a learning curve.

Hi all I am trying to eliminate stations from being grayed out  in the decode window during the contest which I assume comes from the station's I have previously worked. It would be nice to lose that data during the contest but then retrieve it afterwards. I have been trying by renaming the log but that doesn't seem to do it. Any ideas? Didn't think of this prior to the contest starting but thanks for any information. 73 Joe KI4TZ running 2.3.1

locked Signal indications each side of center on FTDX-10 Frequency Waterfall #txaudio

I have a Heil Proset 7 headset that I use with my Yaesu FTDX-10. When running WSJT-X with the headset plugged into the front microphone connector. I get spurious side signal indications from the transmit frequency (each side of center) on the Yaesu FTDX-10 waterfall display. Only happens in certain segments of the band location for FT8/FT4. Using in the area above 1500 hz. When I unplug the headset. The signal cleans up to be nice, clean and crisp. Input and output levels are set perfect. i.e. No ALC signal deflection on transmit. Output level set to barely power decrease point. Doesn't matter what power level is being used. Signal input set to 30-35 db range. Radio volume (AF) is turned down to zero (0). Make any sense? One thought I had was, since the Heil Proset 7 is both a Input and output device there might be some signal leakage or other anomaly. Crazy thought I know. Just kind of rambling.

locked Map65 3.0 some presentation issues #map65

A couple notes about how Map65 3.0 presents information.
In "Time Hack.png" the time hack for sequences between the top of the hour and 10 mins after the hour is missing a leading zero on the minutes.

In "Messages1.png" presentation of DF is not calculated right.  I would think that DF should always be between -500 and +500
In "Messages3.png" after selecting 070 and decoding there the correct DF of 070 +65 is shown in the main decode window.  If I then move off of 070 and decode again, both outcomes are presented in the Messages window.

In "Messages2.png" shows what happens if the Messages window is narrowed to save screen real estate.  The colons roll over to the next line, wasting a line and visually confusing.  Do we really need the colon at the end of a line ?

Finally, if Tol is set to 1000, Map65 crashes on decode with "Subprocess failed with Exit code 2"  It is a Fortran runtime error.  I can't copy and paste it, but you should be able to reproduce it easily.

I notice that MAP65 no longer seems to populate the main window unless you've actually selected an active frequency that is shown in the Messages window? The older version(s) would always populate the main window every decode cycle.

To be fair, it's poor transmitter design.   It shouldn't be the job of software to have to be set for this.

A properly designed transmitter, if it is going to be susceptible to low drive level, needs to have level detection circuitry on its input to stop it going into transmit if drive is too low.

Your file 210607_1206.wav decodes perfectly with WSJT-X in mode Q65-60C:
     1206 -18  2.6 1264 :  CQ SM4GGC JO69     q0

Your other three files also decode perfectly, but the signal is mode JT65C rather then Q65-60C:
     1524 -13  2.9  953 #* CQ KB2SA DM13                        f
     1526 -14  2.8  944 #* CQ KB2SA DM13                        f
     1528 -15  2.8  937 #* G7TZZ KB2SA -23                      f

As you noticed, these signals "appear to be too wide for Q65-60C".  You were right, because they are not Q65-60C signals.

Reino Talarmo

Is the Q65 ramp amplitude shape and timing documented somewhere?  I couldn't find it in the User Guide or the Quick Start Guide.
Does it vary with sub-mode?

Why is it needed? Reduction of "key-clicks" at the start and end of transmissions?

Hi Steve,

I made some measurements with v2.5.0-rc1 and got results:

FST4 with environmental variable FST4_NOSHAPING=1 starts without a ramp, but ends with about 13 ms Gaussian shape ramp-down

FTS4 with environmental variable FST4_NOSHAPING=0 or no variable starts with about 13 ms ramp-up and ends with a bit less than 13 ms ramp-down

Q65 starts without a ramp-up, but ends with about 2.7 ms ramp-down

I all situations and *modes* Tune starts with a bit less than 10 ms exponential ramp-up and ends with a bit less than 10 ms exponential ramp-down. The same happens, when transmission is stopped with Halt Tx and started in the middle of a Tx period.

I did not spotted any change with sub-modes.

I like the slow ramp-up and ramp-donw as it keeps transmission cleaner. On the other hand having it selectable / optional is also a nice feature with some TX implementations and should be applied also for Tune and perhaps to ramp-down as well. The latter depending on amplifier implementation, the PTT is active hundreds of milliseconds after tone is gone. On the other hand new amplifier designs should take that into account.

A minor conclusion about FST4 with nonshaping is that is does not apply to Tune or to a late start of transmission. So in principle the prevention of the slow starting issue is not fully implemented.

Hi Steve.
The 1206 file is Q65-60C and decodes:
1206 -18 2.6 1264 : CQ SM4GGC JO69  q0
The rest are JT65C.

Just looking at you audio passband it looks to be very narrow.
Don’t know what radio your using but Ive had a similar problem with my FT-991
You may benefit from running the Measure Reference Spectrum from the tools menu and then selecting Ref Spec under the spectrum display.
This will correct both the waterfall display and the audio going to the decoder.

Hi Steve

I only looked at one of the files (1526).

The reason it will not decode as a Q65-60C signal is because it is a JT65C signal.

Decodes in MAP65 probably because you have set that to decode both Q65 and JT65.

JT65 and Q65 decodes in MAP65 are indicated with a different character - see the Quick Start guide, so you can tell which mode the signal was.

locked #bug - Hang on "prompt to log" #IssueReport

John Petrocelli

Hello

I am occasionally seeing a hang on the the "prompt to log" a QSO.

My Environment is: Win 10 x64, Dell Optiplex Quad Core. 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, WSJT-x newest GA release, WSJT-x set to prompt to log, using the simple logging - nothing else, JtAlert running also.

   Symptom.....
On occasion when prompted to Log a QSO, clicking "YES/OK" will not respond nor will clicking "NO".
I can not move the window using Windows "drag".
Right-click on ICON in Task Bar and choosing "Close Window" has no affect.
Only option is to bring up Task Manager, locate the WSJT-x application, right click and choose "End Task". This is made difficult since on can not "drag the WSJT-x Log Prompt window to view the prompt from the Task Manager to "End Task".

It only happens occasionally. My alternate is to possibly write a CMD file to close "WSJT-x"

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.
