Hi Joseph,

Is your PC more vulnarable to RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) than your laptop? Could this be the reason for your problem?

Have you tried using RFI-protection ferrites on all ends of PC-connecting cables?

Emne: [WSJTX] Inscrutable WSJT-X problem! #stopped_working

I seem to have an unsolvable WSJT-X transmission problem, that came about while operating one day (I had been using it for several months).  I don't remember clearly how it occurred, because I was concentrating on making contacts, but it seemed the keyboard or operating system froze or bugged, and I could no longer use the FT8 session I was running at that time.

Even after a reboot, I could not make a contact, although everything seemed to work, and WSJT-X opened as normal.

I re-installed the WSJT-X program, reloaded the CP210 USB/UART codex s/w, and even ran a utility to clean up the registry.  No luck.  The program loads, goes into transmit mode, the monitor shows a modulated signal going out, but no one replies, and PSK Reporter acts as if it doesn't hear me.

As an experiment, I had another laptop, and installed the program on it.  It worked first time, every time, like the Eveready Bunny!  So, for the past few months, I have been scratching my head comparing everything I could between the two computers.

They both have Win10, CP210, WSJT-X 2.12, and use the same IC-7300 rig.  The Icom display looks like the same modulated FT8 signal when I transmit from either computer.

What else is there left to compare ?  I have checked, rechecked and re-re-checked all settings again and again.

Is there some other wsjt-x supporting file in Win10 that might have been corrupted on the one pc?  I hesitate to do a complete windows re-install and then have to re-install the dozens of programs I already have on the computer, but I am running out of ideas.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Hello-

win10, updated.
using wsjtx v2.4.0-rc4 for wspr monitoring. appears band hopping not working?  the "day part" does not show in bottom row of display.

also when i look at the 'schedule' , top row, last column to right says "24'. If  I click it, selects all of column 1 (far left- time groupings) as well as the the '24' column.

nothing in manual i could find.

any advice please?
Thanks

locked #bugreport (more a suggestion?): stop auto scroll when scroll bar is not at bottom #IssueReport

Victor Reijs

Hello all of you,

I am a new user of wsjt-x (first as an SWL [NL413] and in the near future as pe1atn). Last Saturday the PACCDigi contest was happening. It was my first contest. So used wsjt-x (v2.3.0). I all worked fine, and I am sure that for a transmitter operator the GUI looks great.
As an SWL there is one thing that could be very handy. Being able to stop the scrolling of the 'Band activity' area. So if the scroll bar is not touching the bottom then it would be nice if the monitored messages are not resetting the scroll.  As SWL one wants to look in the past and at this moment the area scrolls up when a new message is decoded. So relaxed looking for earlier messages is very cumbersome. Pressing 'Stop' stops the monitoring, which is not handy as I want monitoring to continue (only the scrolling to be easier controlled).

Could that be implemented?

Another option in the Band Activity area (and Rx Frequency' area) would be a 'Find' (that colors the existing and new-decoded matching string).

Anyway thanks for providing this great program and mode.

All the best and stay healthy,

Victor (NL413 and PE1ATN)

Since you have split set to fake it, and the test ptt  button is still red, the mismatch is probably because you are have the radio keyed. Unkey the radio by clicking test ptt again, and your displayed frequency in wsjtx should match your radio.

Also, if you want to change bands, use the dropdown above the signal strength meter to select an appropriate frequency for the mode you have selected.

Thanks Greg, knowing that about the frequencies helps. I'll use what's program default. I have attached a screenshot so you guys can see if I am messed up in the setting up or not. The "Test CAT" is green and the "Test PTT" is red, showing that the program is happy happy with my config. I can't show a side-by-side of the radio and the PC, but I'll try to explain what is happening. In screenshot01, notice the frequency: 14.072.711. My radio is dialed in at 14.075! That frequency does change as I change frequency, but still stays mismatched.
The band activity window is empty. I know there isn't anything on the waterfall in the pic, but even when there is, the window is still empty/blank.
I hope that you guys can help me get everything meshing properly. If you need more input, please, let me know.

Hi Tony,

if you are seeing a difference between the displayed frequency in WSJT-X and you rig then you have probably entered calibration parameters into the "Settings->Frequencies" panel. To revert to no frequency calibration correction enter 0 for both the slope and intercept parameters.

Hello Tony!

The frequency list is static, sort of. Using the Settings, you can go in and define other frequencies but I suggest you leave them as is. Most people are transmitting and receiving within the limitations of the base frequency. You can 'fine tune' where you receive and transmit by clicking and shift-clicking (hold shift key while you click with mouse button) respectively in the waterfall portion of the software.

Having a displayed frequency mismatch between the software and the radio could be the reason you are seeing the red mode indicator. If CAT isn't able to tune you to the frequency, adjust your radio to the frequency listed in the software and see if that makes the mode indicator turn color. Check the WSJT-X user manual for the proper frequencies for each band and mode to make sure you are on the right one for your intended use.

I've got a Xiegu G90 and the XGGComms Digimode-4 cable. It took some trial and error to get it setup and working properly, part of the problem is I don't have a permanent shack setup and I am getting RFI wigglies into my 'shack'. Ferrite, and lots of it, have helped squash some of those problems. I also refer back to the WSJT-X user manual and the FT8 Hinson tips for DXers PDF. I will throw a link to the PDF below:

I've had that happen several times and I found that a "RESET" of the IC-7300 cleared up the problem.

If you do a full factory reset, make sure you save all your settings on on an SD card before you start
or you will have to enter them all back in manually.

I eventually found that my problem was caused by a bad factory barrel crimp on the power cord where
the flag fuse was spliced to the power cord.  I re-crimped the connection and have not had another issue.
Up until I corrected that problem, I had thought I had an RFI issue and had snap on ferrites on everything.

I'm stumped and can't find anything about this issue after a lot of googling.

I'm on Windows 10 on an ASUS laptop and my rig is an IC-7300.

Suddenly, when I attempt to transmit (FT8) with my IC-7300, I get transmission, but at the end of the cycle, it just keeps transmitting. The only way to stop it is with the TRANSMIT button on the front panel. But after that, PTT control seems to be locked. Then the Test PTT button in Settings is grayed out. If I try exiting WSJT-X and relaunch, I get a message that another instance is running and it asks me if I want to remove the stale lock file. No answer works, and I can't kill it in Task Manager. All I can do is reboot, but then after launching WSJT-X, I just have the same problem.

I've been running FT8 every day for a week without problem. The only thing that's different is that I installed Gridtracker. The problem occurs whether Gridtracker is running or not.

My station isn't permanent. I live in a small rental house with no room for a shack, so I set up outside. I don't have a proper ground, because I can't here. I'm not allowed to drive a ground rod. I'm using an end-fed with my internal tuner. I know it's a compromise antenna. It's what I have for now. It's hard to get my ideal antenna due to rental restrictions and the fact that I'm disabled. I'm just using a USB cable without an intervening interface.

What gets me is that I've made 150 or so QSOs the past few days without problems and I haven't changed anything. I've reinstalled the USB driver, rearranged my USB cable, which had ferrite beads on both ends, and I don't know what else to do. Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks.

Mike NX7E
Hi Mike,

your symptoms are likely caused by a loss of CAT control due to issues with the virtual serial port. Given it happens while transmitting then RFI is extremely likely to be the root cause. Verify by using reduced power, a dummy load, a different band, or another aerial.

Dave sorry disagree

If you ‘filter’ all.txt to get all MSK entries - to see what was sent etc - no date there.
Your argument assumes there will be details ON THE SAME day before/after the MSK entries to allow you to find the date - what is to say the details before (or after) are for the same day.

The log file should show the date/time for each entry.

Well, my issue was in the RC3 release. I'm now running with RC4, and will see if it iis still there.

Hi Bill,

I ran into this problem when I tested some function in my Alltext.exe program that I sued for the same function.
I found that when I used WSJT-X 2.3 rc1 (or rc2). The Date and time was only included in the TX record that
was written to the All.txt file.

I believe the problem was fixed when 2.3 rc3 was released.

Subject: [WSJTX] #bugreport ALL.TXT

Team:

I am noticing that under some conditions, the date field is omitted from ALL.TXT for monitored calls, but not for transmissions I make.

What is a little more odd, this did happen when switching from 160 meter FT8 to 6 meter MSK144.

Is this a known issue?

I have just downloaded and installed the rc4 version in case the issue is resolved.

(I use the ALL.TXT file to recreate QSOs that don't get properly logged due to an xquartz crash. Usually I run WSJTX on Intel NUCs running Ubuntu after doing "ssh -Y <linux-host>" and xterm. Works most of the time, but xquartz on mac has proven to be unexpectedly crash-worthy.)
