Hi Reino,
I cannot follow your assumptions:

1./  On contests automatic logging can be used. In this case there is no need (and possibility) to check and accept the logging information. If the "a-priori" decoding is not reliable, how could I correct the received data? I have only data displayed on the screen. I can only enter what I see there.  WSJT-X could do it, whether it is correct or not.

2./ At the beginning of the contest, I waited one cycle after receiving RR73, before starting a new QSO. Later, as I realized that in RTTY-RU mode no closing 73 is sent, I started the next QSO immediately after receiving RR73. Opening the log session when receiving messages with "a1" and "a2" occurred in both cases.

Are there plans to make WSJT-X more compliant with Apple’s developer guidelines and OS requirements so that moving the sysctl.conf back to /etc from /Users/Shared/Relocated Items isn’t required with every OS update? (Not to mention those poor folks with M1 Macs that have to run terminal commands every time they run it). Long term this seems unsustainable.

I’m not a programmer (at least not of anything complicated - FORTRAN and Java in school don’t really count :-D ), but it seems odd that WSJT-X is doing something with shared memory that is beyond what far more computationally intensive applications are doing. Is it because of the real-time nature of the calculations/decoding?

I have noticed the "a`priori" appear many times on FT4.  There is no AP selector in the decode drop down like in FT8, so you can't turn it off.  And yes, when it appears, the received report must be manually entered in the Log QSO box.  And this is in 2.4.0 rc1, so I hope they fix this before rc2 as it's a real problem as fast a FT4 operates.

GA Karl, I had a similar problem. IIRC, I went into Raspbian "Preferences" from Main Menu and set "LOCALE" to USA.  Then it worked for me.  I presume there is a LOCALE for Austria. Take a look...this might work?

Hi Andy,

Realize that the SNR value is merely a measurement of the strength of the signal relative to
the calculated noise floor at your location. If you reduce the noise floor at your location
your will change (improve) the SNR value whether you changed the antenna or not.
The report you receive is relative to the noise floor at the other stations location.
Low noise floor there will render a better SNR.

That being said, I wrote a program that actually analyzes all the signals that your decode
at your location and calculates the Avg, Low, Hi and Variance for all the decodes by Station By Date.
You would be amazed at the variance and 1 Standard deviation of said SNR.

It is the same program that I wrote to search through the All.txt file to find confirmation
requests for busted QSOs.  It does not load large All.txt into memory and given the QSO date
will find those lines in less than 0.5 seconds.

The program is free its called Alltext.exe and can be downloaded from ProgramsByW2JDB@groups.io
Just subscribe, got the files section and download it.

It is a Windows only program.

I'm wondering if paying attention to the sent SNR and the received SNR has any corresponding value when evaluating the efficiency of one's antenna? Example:  I put up a new antenna for 80M recently and the 10 or QSOs I have had with it show that I am received about 10db LESS that the SNR that I send. Obviously, my power (50w) compared to their unknown power may render such comparisons useless,  but I am wondering how others use the software's TX/RX SNR data in evaluating antennae?

NO,, NO, NO! The earth is a big resistor -- connecting to it burns transmitter power, reducing the strength of the transmitted signal. Indeed, the function of radials is to screen (shield in US English) the RF field from lossy earth, providing low resistance radials to carry the return current. A wire counterpoise carries the return current but doesn't do the shielding.

Hi Brian and All,

Those problems are difficult to study without having access to at least all.txt file. It contains all received and sent messages, but it does not tell what operator actually did and when. In cases I have studied the source of problem  has been limitation of the auto sequence protocol.

It can deal with a single QSO at the time. Any interleaving of two QSOs usually break it.
some discussion is e.g. in mail item:

Missing gridsquare info in the ADI file

Another possible issue for missing information is as discussed:

>Hi Steve,

>I observed exactly same issues during week end contest as well.

1.       I assume that this feature is intended one to keep logged information as user has accepted it. The AP information may be not be reliable and user needs to check it before accepted for log. Perhaps MMI could be a bit more user friendly, if the existing unreliable info is presented to user and e.g. background color of the box is changed to pink!

2.       Yep, the first call needs to be completed i.e. logged before invoking a new one. It is only a single QSO automata.

Subject: Re: [WSJTX] 2.3.0-rc2 STILL NOT LOGGING PROPERLY!

I observed something along these lines running FT4 in the RTTY Roundup.  The signal report and location info from the station I was working (and occasionally my transmitted info) were not transferred to the logging "approval" window.

There seemed to be two situations in which this occurred, but my observations were made rather hurredly in a contest mode of thinking, rather than in a proper debugging mindset, so they may not be entirely accurate.

1.  When an AP decoding flag (a1 or a2) appeared in the received report/QTH message.  Does the higher probability of error flag the software to not transfer info to the log?  I was able to type in the necessary info but it really upset the rhythm!

and

2.  When I (as the running station) received an RR73 and then double clicked on another station to initiate the next QSO.  My normal procedure was to double-click before approving the log entry from the recently completed QSO (I am not fast enough to do it in reverse order and not miss too much of the transmission slot in FT4).  Perhaps this results in the "interleaved QSOs challenge" that Reino mentioned.

I am guessing that around 5-10% of my QSOs required manual typing of the log info.

I was using v.2.3.0-rc2, with Deep decoding (never thought about changing it during the contest).

I needed to import an adif file into N1MM+ but found that N1MM+ is very picky and didn’t like the file format, so wouldn’t import it. A search on here and the Web didn’t help much, other than by manually  recreating the same columns or entering the data directly in N1MM+

However I did find a sisple workaround that may help: Export an adif file from N1MM+, copy the header down to the marker and use it to replace the existing header in the file created by WSJT-X.

it may save you a lot of time one day!

Hi Jim,

as far as I know that is not quite the fully story. I believe Prolific submitted a new driver to WHQL which became the driver automatically installed and updated by Windows updates. That driver included code to cripple identified clones of their hardware but unfortunately it also crippled older versions of their own hardware. Clearly they did that reluctantly, but if knock-off clones of their hardware threatened their business model then I can see why they may have done that. Bottom line is that older devices and clones may not work with current drivers.

Related to this, FTDI who are a competitor had similar issues and also submitted a clone crippling driver to WHQL but later withdrew it due to overwhelming bad feedback. So with FTDI devices you may well be more likely to be using a knock-off clone as I believe they will still work.
