Silicon Labs has released an updated driver on 12/23 that will work on Big Sur with the Yaesu radios' FT-991/a and FT dx-101D/MP.

I've installed and tested it.

What do you have for menu 73-Data Level Out?  The default is 50.  If I use that ALC goes bananas (that's American for crazy high).  Some other users set it to 20.

I thought I had everything working well with most the same settings you have and Data Level Out of 20, but now power output is cut about in half.  It's driving me nuts.

Robert A Wilson

While participating the the RTTY Roundup today, WSJT-X version 2.2.2 running on Windows version 10.0.19041.685 crashed 17 times. It happened every time on receive and most of the time when I'd clicked on a link when someone was calling CQ and they responded. Sometimes it would happen when a direct call was made and they responded. Usually restarting the program got things going again. At one point, a complete reboot was required. It hasn't crashed during regular usage. Something similar to this was happening during Field Day when using a different computer. Let me know if I can provide any additional information.
Thanks,

Hi Daniel

I was having the same issue it would transmit then in the middle of the contact it would stop triggered. had no output I thought was my radio or signalink.I was not that but the USB port I was plugged into. My desktop has 8 USB ports but 3 have stopped working. The one I was using was work but for some reason not well enough to transmit with output.I had a powered USB adaptor. that fixed it until I can do something with it. Hope this helps.

This is interesting. I was part of the early FST4/W test group but I never realized this ramped amplitude was happening. In general I would say it is not good news with class D and E amplifiers which were never designed for amplitude varying waveforms.

I've been having problems with FST4/W transmissions with T/R period of 120s or less. Sometimes, but not always, my class D amplifier gets into an abnormal state with significant oscillation in output amplitude immediately at the start of a transmission and never recovers unless I ramp the drain voltage down drastically and then bring it back up. I never mentioned it because others didn't seem to be having issues and I thought it was something unique to my equipment. Now I don't know what to think. I have never had it happen with WSPR or JT9. What seems really strange is that FST4/W seems OK at T/R periods of 300s and up. So I'm not sure if my problem is related to this or not.

Hello Peter,

I've checked the audio waveform out of the Intel NUC PC and the FST4W-120 start is indeed much slower to rise (~140mS) in comparison with WSPR. In the shots below I've altered the timebase to get the full rise of the FST4W onto the screen. It's the only difference that I can see between the two modes at start-up. My amplifier is based on the K3MF design here https://njdtechnologies.net/k3mf-2200-meter-amplifier/ with the FT-817 running at 10.136MHz and followed by a mixer with a GPS locked 10MHz LO all of which works fine on WSPR but trips almost every time with FST4W. I guess VOX might be a solution but at the moment I'm using the FT-817 in data mode with the audio connected to the rear which is my preferred set-up.

I've also successfully used the FST4 modes but am distinctly uneasy about the effect the trips might have on my FETS and/or power supply! It's odd that nobody else from the LF/MF fraternity has mentioned it though.

Hi Bart

Since I run an FT-991a here, thought I'd share what I set my rig & computer to.

Yes, I'm using the default of 50 for the (73) Data Level Out.  However, I routinely use my sound level out (computer setting) set to 100% and - most importantly - adjust the DT GAIN setting on the FT-991a screen (while observing the ALC meter) just below where the ALC becomes active.  That setting is, typically, around 30 to 40 (out of 100)...  I use flrig as the "server" interface between WSJT-X (and fldigi and SSTV).

Hope that helps you...

Burt,

your FTdx3000 USB audio codec *is* a second sound card. Make sure your system default sound devices are not assigned to your rig's USB audio codec and it should all work correctly.

I have been having an issue with wsjtx and signalink, The problem is when I change bands I am no longer have power output.
Signalink is triggering my transmit ok. To fix the problem id have to turn signlink PWR button off and on. After this, I see on my watt meter power output.
The radio that I am using is an FT-920 and the data port connection on the back. Receive hs no issue. the waterfall shows all the active digital modes ie ft8, ft4, and others that I am configured for.

NO LUCK at those suggested frequencies, so I'd been using the program default frequencies all day yesterday - mostly on 20m/40m FT4. Propagation for the other three bands were nonexistent for me (northern CA).

I noticed that in addition to switching to LSB, AGC was also turning on during transmit.
I found the "fix" to my issue. Going to "Settings" in WSJT-X, then selecting the "Radio" tab, in the section called "Split Operation", my setting was set for "Rig". I changed it to "Fake It" and now AGC stays off, and mode stays as USB and does NOT switch to LSB.

Thanks to those that provided some suggestions.

Hi Bob.

Did you read the email contents please as I found your response a bit unhelpful!

The operator states she is aware of propagation issues.

But asks will these effect ‘audio levels’ or is there something else going on?

As a ‘visually impaired’ operator this might not be easy to correct/

Hello All,

I have noticed I can get contacts quite easily during daylight time,
typically 20m and on 40m. I have observed 20m goes flat slowly after sunset.
On 40m and 80m where I can hear activity during darkness, I find it nearly
impossible to get a contact. Being a blind ham I cannot observe what of the
audio levels are changed by the onset of darkness. While I understand that
changes of the layers of the ionosphere affect propagation. I do not know
what effects this is having on my audio levels. Are they excited or subdued?
If so, are both affected? Or is it nothing to do with audio levels? What can
I do to improve my chances of successful contacts during darkness? It
certainly sounds like there's a lot of activity at night. So I assume they
are usually successful but why aren't I?

Many thanks,

Georgina

You can customize your Alerts on the Alerts Tab under the Settings (all except Counties), and chose which ones you want.  Turing on Audio Alerts under Settings>Call Roster will sound "New Hit" for anything you have identified as "Wanted".   In my own setup, I have this turned on so I can audio alert the Counties, and thus get "New Hit" for everything I have selected as "Wanted".  I just have to look see which field is highlighted to see which Alert(s) the "New Hit" was intended.  So you can either turn off what you don't Want, or customize in the Alerts Tab.  Good Luck and 73, Herb WB8ASI

My 2 cents worth . . .

What software are you using for rig control. For example, I use Ham Radio Deluxe with my Yaesu FTdx3000.
(But, of course, HRD does not support the Xiegu.)

The first place I would look is the rig control software.

Subject: [WSJTX] WSJT-X v2.2.2 and Xiegu G90

I just purchased a Xiegu G90 and got it working in FT8/FT4 with WSJT-X. In WSJT-X I see other stations calling CQ and I can make connections with other stations. According to the other stations my signal strength is MUCH lower than theirs. If I see someone calling CQ at +8dB when they reply they say my signal is something like -19dB. At first I thought it was just due to the G90 having 20Watts max output. However I just noticed that the mode is USB when receiving, but the G90 switches to LSB when transmitting. I do not see this behavior with my Icom IC-7300. I'm wondering if this is why my signal reports are so low.

Is this normal for the G90, or do I have something setup wrong in WSJT-X, or possibly with the G90?

Thanks, Steve WI9SSR
