Hi Ken,

we do not know why the original /etc/sysctl.conf mechanism for setting kernel parameters on macOS startup doesn't work on M1 Macs. It still works on Bug Sur with Intel Macs. We are hoping it is a defect, or that a different way of doing it will be documented by Apple. For now you have to set the parameters manually and repeat after every reboot.

HI Ken - yeah, I’m an eBay seller (19th century postage stamps) and I’m by my computer pretty much all day, so I see a bazillion emails from my Groups.io subscriptions. :-)

I ran into the same situation with the memory thing and after some searching I found those commands documented in a message from Bill G4WJS. As I recall, this is something that will eventually be fixed in WSJT-X. Soon, I hope! :-)

Hi Brian,

try one of the more basic rig models like the TS-480 or the TS-50.

Aside from FALSE DECODES, it has happened to me on 6m because WSJT-X is uploading my decodes to PSK Reporter. So sometimes people see that they probably have propagation to me, and that my rig is obviously turned on, so they call me out of the blue! If I am here, I am happy to work them ;-)

How can this happen?  IO6YIP is not on QRZ.COM so is suspect.  How is my callsign known, I have NOT transmitted at all , not even tuned up.

This has happened probably 6/8 times over the last couple of months.  Sometimes the message format is obviously gibberish, but sometimes nearly right as above.

That's happened to me as well. I assumed they were monitoring pskreporter. One, during the ARRL Grid Chase, was so soon after I changed bands and before I'd transmitted that I assume it was an automated station.

Ken - bring up a terminal session and run the following two commands. You will probably be asked for your password after entering the first one:

      sudo  sysctl  -w  kern.sysv.shmmax=104857600
      sudo  sysctl  -w  kern.sysv.shmall=25600

Then, to verify it worked, run this command in terminal:

       sysctl -a | grep sysv.shm

Those first two commands will get it working. However, until there is a permanent fix, you will need to re-do it after every re-boot of the OS.

Hi Phil,

that's not correct, there's no use of previously decoded callsigns in the decoder. You may be recalling that some messages have calls substituted with hash codes, which take less space in the message. Such hash codes when decoded can only be only be mapped back to calls if the call has been copied before in full or is the hash of one's own call. That is not part of decoding, just a simple lookup after decoding completes.

Hi Dave,

this happens because of AP decoding techniques, it is a false decode. In this case a priori decoding postulates that you might be being called as a result of calling CQ and, by assuming messages might be to you, it can increase sensitivity to messages where that information may be erased (missing) due to QSB or interference. Because the reduced number of bits being decoded, the false decode probability is slightly raised due to the smaller set of possible decodes. Check the WSJT-X User Guide for information on what the "a2" indicates:

https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-doc/wsjtx-main-2.2.2.html#AP_Decoding

locked Worked before problem / missing GRID info in ADI file

Kenneth Williams

First, if this is a known problem, sorry for the repeat.  I looked a little bit but could not find this problem reported.

With WSJT-X, I use the 'worked before' feature to help me spot new contacts.  Normally, a 'worked before' contact shows up as green and a new contact in a 'worked before' grid shows up as blue and a new grid shows up as orange.  Today, a CQ from a new grid appeared (orange), I called back and completed the contact.  Afterwards I saw a CQ from this same operator and it was still orange!  Also, when I looked in the .adi file, the location of your grid was empty!

I looked a little further and I noticed that I have about a dozen contacts with missing grid information in the .adi file and when I have imported the adi file to QRZ, all of the grid location information boxes include the sub-grid designation although this may be something that is added by QRZ when the grid data is missing.

I tried manually adding the grid to the adi file and re-scanning the adi file, including quitting WSJT-X and re-starting, but the CQs from this operator still showed up as orange (un-worked grid).
Any ideas?

I am running v2.2.2 0d9b96 on a Windows 7 machine.

Today's contact was with K7LFY and I mention that in case he is using a different version and there is some strange compatibility issue.

Thanks
Ken
