Hi Dick,

using a SignaLink USB interface the USB Audio Codec devices are the correct devices to select for the WSJT-X "Settings->Audio" input and output devices. If you are not getting any indication of Rx audio input on the thermometer style meter at the bottom left of the WSJT-X main window; then something fundamental is wrong with your audio hook up. Check you connections between the SignaLink USB and your rig. Check you have the Rx level control turned up on the interface. Check you have the rig in USB-DATA mode. Check in the USB Audio Codec recording device properties in Windows that the master level control is set to 0 dB (right-click the slider and select decibels if it is not reading in dB). Check you have allowed WSJT-X to access microphones in the Windows Camera and Microphone Privacy settings.

Once you have Rx audio getting to WSJT-X then set the thermometer style indicator to 30 dB on quite band background noise using the Rx level control on the SignaLink USB interface. Then you can move on to setting up Tx audio.

I had a problem using WSJT-X and fl-rig with 2 or 3 seconds latency in the software with one of the PTT options (can’t remember which).. I now use PTT by CAT and it generally is immediate.

To follow up on the earlier question - and in the spirit of sharing, I have documented what is required, using v2.3.0-rc1, to properly decode FST4W signals that are now being transmitted on the 2200 and 630 meter band using just the jt9 executable:

http://ka7oei.blogspot.com/2020/10/using-jt9-executable-to-receive-fst4w.html

The above may be of interest to those who wish to decode FST4W transmissions using the bare minimum software.  Thanks to Joe and the crew for pointing me in the right direction.

That issue occasionally comes up with my setup as well.

if you look at the lower right corner of your monitor you’ll see the speaker symbol. Click on that and see what the volume slider is set at. Sometimes for no apparent reason it slides back to a lower setting. Assuming your sound card is properly set increasing the volume on the slider does the trick. Mine is typically set between 30-40. Sometimes the simple things does the trick. Sometimes not. Hope this helps.

Hi Christer,

what you describe is not really possible, the outgoing message timing is determined on in the software, only small extra delays due to latency, e.g. in a rig;s Tx DSP, should be added on. Only a matter of a few tens of milliseconds at most.

Do you mean the Tx starts 3 seconds late rather than the DT reported by those receiving you being off by up to 3 seconds? If so then how is your PC and rig connected for audio and PTT?

YES. The best by a WIDE margin. It is also free and the support is amazing. You would not be sorry to use this. As said , you need not install all but I would suggest using COMMANDER and Spot collector as part of your setup although you can go a little at a time.

Because that is not the purpose of WSJT-X.  It provides a rudimentary text log file, but third-party log programs, and software bridges do a much better job than trying to add all sorts of extraneous functions to what is basically a digital communication program.

Such a logging app is DXKeeper, part of the DXLab suite of software.  You don't have to install them all, but DXKeeper provides a lot of functionality along with the capability to automatically upload to many online log systems, as well as LoTW.

Why does wsjt-x not include automatic logging to LoTW, QRZ, etc?  I suppose the answer is "because there are other apps that do that so why expend the effort?".  That's a reasonable answer but the other apps can be tricky to configure, have large footprints, and have features that many of us would never use.  It couldn't be difficult for wsjt-x developers to include support for at least the LoTW APIs.

I don't expect it to happen and as I said I believe that's reasonable. So what is the best option for a simple, low-frills logging app that plays nicely with wsjt-x?

From your screen capture, it appears that your waterfall zero slider and waterfall gain slider are too far to the right.   Mine run about the 3rd bar from the left of the scale.   The RF Gain on the radio should be near max and the audio gain in the Windows application needs to be reduced.

Tom

See here https://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx.html for the deb install package wsjtx_2.2.2_amd64.deb.

However WSJT-X V2.2.2 wont work on Linux Mint 18.x as that is based on Ubuntu 16.04 and WSJT-X needs Ubuntu 18.04.

I couldn't get install from sources to work on LM18 albeit for an earlier version than 2.2.2.  The deb package the best route.

As I recall the version which worked on LM18 is incompatible with later versions, so you though you could install an earlier version you won't get any contacts.

I upgraded to Mint 19 on which V2.2.2 installs from the deb package easily and works just fine. Also LM19 is lighter than LM18 if your on an older PC.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
