I'd like to find out if I can use this setup on HF, 6m and VHF using
the data connector on the rear.
No. The PKT connector is valid for only VHF DATA (FM Packet, page 17
of the FT-847 Operating Manual). For HF data (USB/LSB) you need to use the Data In/Out (3.5 mm) connector (AFSK TNC Connections, page 16 of
the FT-847 Operating Manual).

There must be something else in your system that's either deleting or renaming the wsjtx_log.adi file, which results in WSJT-X having to create a new file with the defective header when you start the program.

You need to investigate what's causing your wsjtx_log.adi files to be deleted or renamed rather than 'blaming' the WSJT-X app for what you're experiencing.

Well, I can't imagine any program that would be looking at a WSJT-X file in a WSJT-X directory and going in and removing one letter in the header. If that were the case, I'd expect to have seen it long before now. The few times it has happened has been with my current version, v 2.2.2, and the version before that. I've been using WSJT-X for several years and this is a recent development.

As I said, I had the problem most recently yesterday. I had made a few contacts the day before with no problem. When I opened WSJT-X yesterday, I got the error. Here are the contents of the entire file as it appeared when I opened WSJT-X before I edited it to put the o back in:

Hello,

I don't have a Ubuntu system running presently.

What I would do is in a terminal:

Get all updates:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

apt-cache search libusb-1.0 | less

and observe what packages contain it and install:

apt-get install <package name>

If it doesn't exist you will have to build that from source too. But it is a good idea to let apt pull most of the weight if you can.

I can't remember why you are building from source but is there a bug to be reported? You might be able to get a .deb file from a testing / development  repo. You may have already explored that route.

Hi Bill
Since my earlier post I have replaced my audio lead with a new one with a mono jack plug either end going from the transceiver ext. speaker socket to my computer. I now find I have no decodes at all by which I mean I was getting a text indicating whether I was transmitting or receiving. But now I am not even getting that. I did notice that whilst doing a monitor I was looking at the radio tab on the settings menu and noticed that whilst transmitting the Test CAT button was showing green and the Test PTT button was showing red. Then when receiving the red PTT button turned off but the green CAT button was still showing green. The transceiver is receiving and transmitting according to the commands of the computer. I really am at a loss as to what I should try next. Any thoughts?

David,

did you check the rig menu options I mentioned? Without those you could be on the wrong frequency or sideband while your rig's VFO shows the expected frequency.

How is your rig connected to your PC for audio and CAT?

Although I had posted much of the following before I have some more information so I am posting as a new post.

Now that I have downloaded V2.1.2 I am able to band hop which I couldn't do before. I ran WSJTx this afternoon for a couple of hours. I noticed that most of the activity was receiving (44) with only 7 transmits. Is this normal? With one exception there were no decodes.

I am using an FT450 and Windows 10. The serial port is COM 3 and the computer and radio "talk" to one another OK. The blue decode button lights up blue from time to time and I enabled the TX button. I have ticked "prefer type1 messages" and "no own call decodes".

The audio settings are Realtek high definition audio both input and output. I have checked the clock sync  which is spot on to the second. I am puzzled as to why there was only one decode on 40 meters.

I had set up the schedule for 80,40,20,15 and 10 metres each for Sunrise grey line, Day, Sunset grey line and night.

I have since tried again without band hopping just on 80 metres. Although the waterfall is active I still get no decodes. Interestingly, although the set up was both receiving and transmitting, only the transmissions were shown on the screen, without decodes.
Having looked at other post on the subject I had previously installed V2.2.2 which I had removed to replace with V 2.1.2 to enable band hopping. I don't know if this is relevant but I thought I should mention it. I would be most grateful for any help.
Kind regards
David Griffiths G4PKV

Hi David,

the ratio of transmissions to receptions is set by the "Tx Pct" spin box, note that on scheduled bands with band hopping the exact ratio may not be what you specify.

Is your rig on frequency and on the right sideband? In the rig menu, assuming you are using DATA mode, you need "D DISP (DATA DISP)" as zero, and "D TYPE (DATA MODE)" as USER-U.

I should have added this to my previous message. JTAlert is now up to 2.16.13. You might want to install the new version.

In JTAlert - Settings-Applications-WSJT-X/JTDX-To Top Options, do you have "Enable bring WSJT-X to Top" checked? If so, uncheck it and see if that helps.

I'm using DigiMod-3 as my audio interface between the pc and radio.  It was highly recommended and now I'm finding that several people have had  hit and miss success with it.  I will try finding an replacement for it today and give that a try.

Hi Amos,
Open your event viewer (type 'event viewer' in the lower left search box) & see what errors, etc have been reported - the logs are time stamped so you can see what was reported when you experienced a crash or hang. It will give the info on what is going on. I had a driver issue on a new Win10 PC that generated 1000's of errors per minute & prevented the PC from working well - turned out to be a microsoft reporting error involving the 'Cortana' & skype apps which MS loads with a new PC whether you want them or not. You can do a search on the error code reported to find help from others on fixing it but beware - scammers & virus peddlers pose as friends to 'Help you fix the error' don't click on a offer to download a fix.
Good luck

I found that a UNUN helped substantially.  Counterpoise wires and and artificial ground from MFJ might also help. I am using an HP Elite Book laptop.  I was using an after market power supply.  It was not only extremely noisy but it also made my RFI problems worse.  The noise problem went away when I used an HP power supply.  It also helped with the system crashes.

I have as suggested connected a battery powered speaker and I am
hearing the radio so the TS-2000 is giving some audio via the ACC2
port.
If you are listening at the SPKR/AUX jack, that also confirms the
DIN13 to RJ45 cable and the "plug and play module" are installed
correctly.

You may want to:

1) Increase menu 50C to provide more output to the Signalink
2) Increase the RX control on the front of the Signalink
3) Install JP 2 (behind the RX pot) to increase Signalink sensitivity.

Beyond that any receive issues are likely to in Windows: levels in Windows Sound Control Panel -> Recording, and Windows Privacy ->
Microphone ("Allow Apps to access your microphone") or incorrect
audio settings in WSJTX.

One more really random Windows setting ... if you do not use Cortana,
Alexa, etc. Check PC Settings -> Privacy -> Voice Activation and
set "Allow apps to use voice activation" *OFF*. If one of those
applications is started automatically and listening, it just might
be messing with audio from Signalink (USB Audio CODEC).

Since I can't "put hands on" the system, I've gone about as far as
I can in suggesting where to look.

I answered that question earlier.

From the Signalink Windows 10 Users Manual, there are *THREE* 3.5 mm
sockets. The one between the USB and RJ45 socket is labelled "MONI"
(monitor) and contains *TRANSMIT* audio at approximately 100 mV RMS.
The sockets to the right of the RJ45 jack are AUX and SPKR (AUX is
closest to the RJ45). *BOTH* AUX and SPKR contain receive audio as
they are in parallel with the SPKR terminal on the jumper socket.

The audio level on the SPKR and AUX jacks will be quite low - perhaps
50 to 100 mV at 10K Ohms impedance. You *WILL NOT* hear anything with
a typical 8 or 16 Ohm headset - you will need to use *AMPLIFIED*
speakers to hear reliable audio.

Note: all three jacks are mono (audio only on the tip).

WSJT-X was configured to use the signallink for Input and output.
The problem was getting the audio into the pc back from the rig through the signallink.
PTT was able to be tripped using either VOX or CAT. The fact that I was able to get the
rig to transmit using VOX tells me that audio was going from the PC through the signallink to the rig.
What was missing was the audio coming back.

If I am not mistaken, and Georgina can correct me if I am wrong, Georgina mentioned in one of her previous replies that she hooked up headphones to the back of the signallink but could not hear any audio either.
If that is the case, then either the rig itself has a technical issue, or the problem resides with either a bad cable of a faulty signallink.

Hello,

This is most helpful and appreciated. I had set the default sounds before FT8 had been attempted. I don't know if an update or something has undone my settings. As I have been leaving it for Sam to set up via team viewer I have not needed speech. Just to read team viewer password then I unload it. It is something I know needs addressing. The laptop is purely for FT8 so I don't use it any other time. While Sam is working on audio I don't want to go messing about with any settings.

My concern is to know where audio from the radio can be found. Especially, as I could get the faulty parts replaced, should that be my problem. So the quicker I can confirm that these new parts are all right the quicker I will get using FT8. I really appreciate you translating the diagrams for me. Please could you tell me what does N / C mean?

Thank you.

According to the picture of the circuit board in the Signalink Win 10
manual (Figure 14, page 11) the pin legends are etched on the top of
the circuit board (1-8, SPK, MIC, PTT, G, G, G) in such a way that a
non-technical sighted person should be able to help you.

I hoped I would know how to check the RJ45 side. could someone tell
me how Tigertronics instruct the jumpers without the module for the
TS 2000?
Tigertonics' web page shows these jumpers for TS-2000:

1 - SPKR (1-16)
2 - MIC (2-15)
3 - PTT (3-14)
4 n/c
5 n/c
6 - G (6-11)
7 - G (7-10)
8 - G (8- 9)

(all jumpers are "straight across")

I do not know (can't find) a schematic for the cable but I would
presume the following:

RJ-45 DIN13
1 3
2 11
3 9
4 n/c
5 n/c
6 4 | Note: RJ-45 6, 7, 8 and DIN13 4, 8, 12 are all ground
7 8 | the specific connections are non specific as long as
8 12 | each ground pin on the RJ-45 is connected to a separate
| ground pin on the DIN13.

Being a screen reader user as soon as I plug the SL USB's cable into
the laptop, my screen reader uses the SL and I cannot get any screen
reader to stop using the SL as it's sound card.
This is an indication that you have not configured Windows 10 as
specified in the Signalink Windows 10 Manual (page 6). You *MUST*
configure Windows 10 so that the "Default Device" for audio playback
is the soundcard in your computer and the "Default Device" for
audio recording is the sound card in your computer *NOT* the Signalnk.

You only configure WSJTX to use Signalink (typically microphone - USB
Audio CODEC) for Input and (typically Speaker - USB Audio CODEC
*BOTH*) for Output. WSJTX -> File -> Settings -> Audio
