Right on the money Bill. Did as you said and my very first contact on FT8 was in Brazil. So much more to learn. At least it keeps the old brain working. Thanks for your help.

Somebody else had a similar rotor problem which I believe was fixed by installing a choke on the rotor control lines.  His wasn't even plugged into the computer.  I coulnd't find the thread.

Hi Bill,

Sorted. You got me on the right track with the run as admin.

My whole JTDX > Omnirig > Logger (Log4OM) chain runs as admin because Log4OM has to run that way. Somebody told me that if one program in a chain has to run as admin, the others do too.

I set WSJT-X to so run and all is well.

Hi Guy,

that is completely unnecessary and constitutes a security risk. There is no need to run any of those applications as administrator.

OM,

it is probably doing that because you have enabled "Rig" or "Fake It" for "Settings->Radio->Split Operating", this is a good thing and it extends the Tx range and quality of your signals.

Hi David,

the "Pwr" slider on the lower right-hand side of the WSJT-X main window is the application speaker level, set that to the top (0dB attenuation) and that level will be recalled whenever you transmit. There is no need to adjust the sound-card speaker level at all.

OM,

that message is normally caused by selecting the wrong COM port for your rig's CAT control connection or having the wrong serial port parameters like the baud rate, which must match that set on your rig.

Another common issue is those having the SignaLink USB audio and PTT interface, this interface does not provide CAT control, you must also connect a USB to serial adapter between your rig and PC for CAT control in this case.

OM,

WSJT-X cannot generate messages until it knows who you are working, either fill in the "DX Call" box or double click on the decode of a station calling CQ.

You can still operate split...actually a good idea to always run that option.  All that's needed to return to normal FT8 is to uncheck Hound.

The other question is what does your ground system look like?
Many seem to run a separate ground outside that is not bonded with the house earth ground.  Everything must be bonded together and running a separate ground is asking for trouble.

If that's your case try disconnecting your custom ground and use the house ground and see if you notice a difference.  I had a friend just make a change like that and his disconnects disappeared.

Hello all. I'm new to the group and new to WSJTX. Here is the problem I'm having. I'm trying to get on to FT8 using a Signalink USB interface to a Kenwood TS-950dx. I followed Signalinks instructions for setting up my computers sound card and the Signalink sound card. Of course it works in receive, but transmit is another story. Signalink says for trans mit settings to get their PTT LED to come on I need to g to volume mixer, select speaker, then select speakers USB codec, which I can do and set its level to 100%. That's fine. Then set application level to 50%. When I do this I have WSJTX in transmit mode, set the slider to 50% and the radio goes into transmit. After the watchdog timer in WSJTX clicks off transmit. My application slider now resets to 0%. If I go back to WSJTX and set the transmit button again to transmit. The radio will not go into transmit, because the application slider is still a 0%. I can go back into volume control and repeat the process and it will transmit. However this cycle just keeps repeating.

What am I missing about the windows setting for the application volume setting with WSJTX?  If I get it to transmit and the watchdog timer drops out, the slider will stay at 50% for a brief time and while watching it, I'll see it drop back to 0%.

Any ideas?

If I call someone, mostly a needed one, new entity, new state or new zone; I ALWAYS look for a free QRG and call there. Most of the cases it works. However when I call CQ the situation will be different.  My remote QTH
is in a very rare grid, I'm the only active HAM (JP92). Especially on 6 mtr I'm often getting piles when the band opens up. On CW I can move around my freq
and picking station. On FT8 most station are coming right on my QRG and if Call 1st is on, I'm unable to pick a split station that can be copied without problem. My wish is that
Call 1st should be able to set a priority to "split" stations. Working a pile I'm staying on one TX freq and try to pick split station. If I got a 73 from my partner I pick the next one. I have been working piles on CW  from
several semi rare entities and have a permanent call on Dominica (J73CCM). Next time on the island I will try FT8 and I guess the pile will be huge. Have not been able to test DX mode. I don't have CAT installed on my
remote (495 km on way).

A couple of days ago I had the first sporadic E opening for the season on 6mtr ft8 from my remote QTH, 63 degrees North (JP92).
Several stations calling, and to be fair with them I turned on Call 1st. 4 out of 5 stations called me on my ”slot”.
Some of them continued calling me after I answered a station and it ended more or less in a mess.
I wish I could set on a priority switch, split first,  together with the Call 1st switch. A Dream or a possibility?
