WSJT-X only appends entries to its log
files when you click "Ok" in the "Log QSO" window. I have no idea
why anyone would think that having all ones completed QSOs in the
same log file is an issue, storage requirements are tiny at less
than a 1000 bytes per logged QSO. That's more than 1,000 QSOs
logged per megabyte and more than a million (1,000,000) QSOs per
gigabyte.

For me,
probably, for some no... A lot of people run their drives almost
full. No clue why these days, storage is cheap!
I had a friend that did this, and after 6 months of FT8 operations
he had "issues", with no disk space...
We all know not to fill the HD, but some do anyway... While I
have GBs of space left today, I might not tomorrow. All things
that write to disk in the fashion WSJT-X does, ought to have
limits placed on them...
What if WSJT-X goes rogue, and starts filling that file... Limits
if properly implemented will help in that case, they might even
help track the issue, if the alert the operator to the issue.

I don't know if
WSJT-X has limits, but operating systems do have limits. If
you ever get to operating system limits, you will be a super

lifetimes.
I have always wondered if this file grows in size forever? Are
there any
limits on it?

Anyone have any
idea about how many entries the WSJT-x log file can
take before it starts affecting performance? I’m thinking that
at some
point it might be good to start deleting the oldest entries.
For
example, you could delete entries older than 4 years. That
would mean
that stations you haven’t worked in 4 years would again show
up as new
stations. It might not be a bad thing to work someone again
after 4
years, especially on VHF.
