I use 2 - 19 inch monitors connected to the port replicator of a Dell laptop, works wonderfully for me!

You don't need a new video card; USB to HDMI/VGA video adapters using the DisplayLink driver can be had for under $40 on Amazon or Ebay. Maybe not good for gaming, but fine for ham radio use. And large monitors are relatively cheap these days. I run WSJT-X in an old 4:3 1280x1024 display, and use the big 27 inch wide screen for everything else.

Guys! One very good solution to not having enough screen size: add another monitor! Buy a USB to VGA adapter, and a used computer monitor( or new, depending on your wallet ), and put some programs on one monitor, and the other on the other one.
