the system tunes to a lower center frequency and applies an offset (usually 6.894600 with a +144000 kHz offset). Is WSJT-X doing this?
What you describe is typical of an SDR program. Many SDR receivers are best not used at the centre (Local Oscillator) frequency so an offset is applied, often adjustable.
