You should NOT turn split off. You need Split or “Fake It” to ensure a clean TX signal, unless you only every TX above 1500Hz.

Regarding the shift, the VFO frequency remains constant on my FT-DX3000 between transmit and receive.  I would check two things:

1)  Make sure you aren't in Hound Mode.
2)  On the settings tab, check that split operation is turned off.

I had the same problem recently with a different Yaesu radio.  I use two different profiles, one for normal FT8 and one for F/H FT8.  I changed split to off for the normal FT8 profile and the problem was fixed.
