Locked Re: Changing and SAVING a configuration

Gil,

that's incorrect, there are multitudes of applications that have no explicit "save changes" facility. They are just like real life, e.g. you walk from A to B, there is no save or cancel option.

If you are worried about messing up a configuration than back it up when you are happy with it ("Menu->Configurations-><current-config>->Clone"), then you can go back to it any time you wish. That's what the "Clone into ..." action is for on the Configurations menu, it copies a named configuration over another one.

Anyway, it seems your problem is not with configurations is WSJT-X but with the way you cannot cancel all your changes before exiting. Before you ask for such a feature just note that the WSJT-X settings include just about everything you can change in WSJT-X. I suggest that rather than have us completely change everything so you can have a prompt to save changes on exit, instead you clone each of your "wanted" configurations then have one working configuration which you always have current, then when you start WSJT-X use the "Menu->Configurations->Working config->Clone into..." action to copy in the configuration you want to use.

I realize wat you are saying and it seems I have no choice but it is still much more a pain than the way it would work if I could make a change and then do a save to a named configuration. That is the way every other program I have works and it is very easy to goof up with the way this works. I see I have no choice so will just have to accept it.

Pretty much what I thought and HATED but I guess I will learn to live with it. Having to terminate to do this is a real PITA and I have no other program that requires this but it is what it is. Thanks for your reply and I will try to remember this process.

Gibert,

you are making this much more complicated that it is in reality. There is no need to terminate WSJT-X to do anything with configurations. Just treat each configuration as you would treat WSJT-X without configurations, i.e. you change settings as required - that's it, no more, no less.

If you need a separate configuration then clone another that is close to where you want to start, give it a name that is meaningful to you. While you are switched to a configuration make any changes you need to, when you switch away from it, and back to it later; it will be exactly as you left it, just like exiting WSJT-X and restarting brings back the same settings.
