Locked Re: Changing and SAVING a configuration

John,

those things are in the Settings dialog, you already have to click "Ok" to commit those changes, if you click "Cancel" any changes that have been made since entering the Settings dialog are discarded. You even get the chance to test any rig control settings before committing to them by clicking "Ok". Seems to me that we have already implemented what you are asking for.

As for changing audio settings that might "screw up the works", how do you propose that WSJT-X detects that you have selected the wrong audio device or channel?

Then limit those warnings to those things that would screw up the works... like radio & audio settings!

Or give us the option for each tab & ask if we want a warning.

John,

see my reply to Gilbert. What you are asking for is a warning when you change *any* setting in WSJT-X, that will soon get tiresome!

Attn: Bill...

He brings up a good point here...

At the beginning, it would be helpful if you guys added a simple text block to ask, 'are you sure you want to modify THIS config?'  - just as a reminder.

I am still confused, I guess.

1 WSJTX is working as I want it too. Let us say that I have configured all the settings the way I want and it is working correctly. Let us say that I have just started it.

2 I decide I need some changes of the configuration so I go to File/Settings and make some changes.

QUESTION IS

How do I save these changes WITHOUT causing a change to one of the configurations that I can use from Configurations/Select / Switch to it.

What I want to do is have a NEW NAMED configuration. I now have 2 different configurations that I can use and after starting WSJTX I can select configuration Switch to and be exactly the way I saved it.

I have been told that the changes are not saved to the ini until I exit the program and that when I do a clone it clones the CURRENT FROM THE INI and NOT the new changes. I realize I could terminate the program, Start again, Do the clone (Clone operation does not let you do it into a new name chosen by me. It forces selection of one of the configurations in the list. This means that one is now destroyed and has the new settings. (Not good) and I now have the changes. Seems an error prone process to me and I have overwritten configurations that I did not want to change before. This process is not even close to the way I am used to with Windows programs. Perhaps I am totally missing something here.
